Altro Stronghold 30, Altro Whiterock White, Altro Aquarius
In Hässleholm, Sweden, there is an expansion of preschools, with new schools being built in Vinslöv, Bjärnum and Tyringe. Borggården Preschool in Vinslöv was the first building project. When fully developed, it will accommodate 90 children aged 1-6 years. Birgitta Elmström, Preschool Director at Borggården is also coordinating the construction of all three preschools.
“When we had an opportunity to build a new preschool, we wanted to do it right from the start. Safety, hygiene and a good acoustic environment had to be taken into account when planning the build. In the kitchen, hygienic wall cladding and sound-absorbing safety flooring were key requirements. We approved the architect’s suggestion for Altro Stronghold 30 on the kitchen floor, Altro Whiterock on the kitchen walls and Altro Aquarius in the toilets and baby changing facilities,” says Elmström.
Altro Stronghold 30 safety flooring achieves Altro’s highest rating for slip resistance (PTV≥55, R12), and is designed to minimise risk in wet and greasy conditions for the lifetime of the flooring. As well as helping to keep staff safe from slips, it also helps reduce their fatigue, thanks to its 3mm thickness which provides noise reduction and comfort underfoot.
Altro Whiterock White is Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) approved and is made from a high-quality, food-safe uPVC polymer that can handle temperatures up to 60°C. It meets all current European Union (EU) Directives on health and hygiene. This makes it particularly suitable for use in commercial kitchens especially combined with Altro Stronghold 30.
The toilets and baby changing room were installed with Altro Aquarius. Achieving a PTV ≥50 and Class B to DIN 51097 for barefoot use, Altro Aquarius provides optimum lifetime sustained slip resistance in wet and dry environments. It’s a 2mm safety floor that has been extensively tested on a variety of shoe types to ensure top performance in a host of environments – bathrooms, changing areas, hospital wards; anywhere you can expect a wet and dry floor environment.
Architect Helena Nyholm, from Sesam Arkitektkontor in Kristianstad, said: “Altro Whiterock is a new product in Sweden and I wanted to try it on kitchen walls. I also believe that preventing slips in catering is an important safety issue. It made sense to choose a slip-resistant floor from the same manufacturer for an integrated system that is safe, hygienic and easy to clean. The result is very good and I plan to use it in future projects. I also had great support from Altro during the planning,” says Helena.
